Thirty years ago, the Oslo Philharmonic suddenly came to the attention of music-lovers outside Scandinavia with their Tchaikovsky symphonies, vivdly conducted by Mariss Jansons and sumptuously recorded on the Chandos label. Since then, other excellent Nordic bands have made their mark, but expectations still run high for the Norwegians’ current UK tour: first stop, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall.
